Government Secretary Calls to Fix 32-Month Mandatory Service Now, Discuss 36 Months After Elections

Government Secretary Yossi Fox addressed the Knesset regarding the length of mandatory military service in Israel. He noted that the Chief of Staff has sent multiple letters emphasizing the need to extend compulsory service to 36 months. However, Fox stressed that the most urgent step, given the operational needs of the Israel Defense Forces, is to first establish a 32-month service period immediately. The proposal to extend service to 36 months, he said, should be considered after the upcoming elections.
