Power Transformer Explosion Injures No One in Washington Apartment Complex
A powerful explosion occurred in an electrical room at an apartment complex in Tacoma, Washington, while firefighters were on site responding to reports of smoke. The incident took place when firefighters opened the electrical room door, triggering a blast that sent flames and glass shards flying toward them. Fortunately, no firefighters were injured as they quickly retreated from the scene.
The Tacoma Fire Department reported that the event began after residents noticed smoke and a prior explosion from the electrical infrastructure. As a precaution, eight buildings in the complex were evacuated. Initial investigations indicated that a malfunction in an electrical transformer caused smoke to infiltrate several buildings, and the explosion happened after the power was cut off to the structure.
Following inspections by the local power company, most residents were allowed to return to their homes, except for one building that remained without electricity. Authorities are continuing to investigate the exact circumstances leading to the explosion.
