Minister Amichai Eliyahu Blames Former Hostages Commander for October 7 Killings
Minister of Heritage Amichai Eliyahu sharply criticized Nitzan Alon, former head of the Hostages and Missing Persons Command, in a Thursday interview with Galei Tzahal. Eliyahu accused Alon of being responsible for the deaths on October 7, attributing it to Alon's approach that prioritized the terrorists' position "on the fence."
Eliyahu responded to Alon's claim that the political leadership refused earlier and more comprehensive prisoner exchanges to achieve a so-called "complete victory," which Alon described as false. Eliyahu argued that if Alon's strategy had been followed, Hamas would now be positioned directly on the fences near Israeli communities. He held Alon and his team accountable for the massacre that occurred on October 7.
