Three Fans Invade Pitch During Senegal-Belgium World Cup Match in Seattle
During the 2026 World Cup Round of 32 match between Belgium and Senegal in Seattle, an unusual incident occurred when multiple fans attempted to invade the pitch. The disruption happened in the 31st minute, shortly after a water break, causing the game to be paused for about a minute and a half. At least four fans tried to reach the field; three succeeded in entering before being stopped by security, while a shorter individual wearing a Belgium jersey was detained before reaching the grass. Another person wearing a white shirt was also arrested outside the pitch.
Among the pitch invaders were a fan in Belgium's kit, one wearing a shirt advertising the betting platform "Duel," and another with a shirt reading "ACT - Asians Can Too." Reports indicate that at least three of the intruders wore Meta smart glasses, likely to record the event from their perspective. The Duel platform's X (formerly Twitter) account is suspended and restricted in multiple countries including the US, UK, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, and Australia.
The official FIFA broadcast quickly cut away from the incident, adhering to the standard practice of not giving airtime to pitch invaders. Play resumed after less than 90 seconds, with Senegal leading 1-0 thanks to a goal by Habib Diarra. Belgium later mounted a dramatic comeback to win 3-2, securing their place in the tournament's round of 16.
