Israel Aerospace Industries Wins Three Israel Defense Prizes
Israel Aerospace Industries won three of the five Israel Defense Prizes for projects in the fields of space, intelligence and special operations. Israel Aerospace Industries was the standout winner at this year’s Israel Defense Prize ceremony, as three of the five awards presented this year went to projects in which it played a central role. The ceremony took place today, Wednesday, at the President’s Residence in Jerusalem, in the presence of President Isaac Herzog, Defense Minister Israel Katz, IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir, Defense Ministry Director General Amir Baram and other senior officials from the security establishment and the defense industries.
One of the prizes was awarded to Israel Aerospace Industries together with the Space Directorate in MAFAT, the Defense Ministry’s research and development unit, and Unit 9900 in the Intelligence Directorate, for the project to operationalize and operate the “Ofek 13” and “Ofek 19” observation satellites. In the prize committee’s justification, it was noted that the satellites provide the security establishment with high-quality, reliable intelligence at all times, and represent a significant leap forward in performance, weight and system volume.
Another prize was awarded for a classified operational system developed together with the Mossad and the Air Force, which enables a substantial expansion of the Mossad’s collection and operational capabilities for intelligence and special tasks. According to the prize committee, this is a project that combines technological innovation with extraordinary operational boldness.
The third prize was awarded for a technological development carried out for Unit 81 in the IDF Intelligence Directorate, designed to address a unique operational problem. The project also involved the MM Directorate, Unit 8200 and the Research Division in the Intelligence Directorate. According to the award committee, the development provided a complex, innovative and precise solution to a challenge that had occupied the security establishment for a long time.
Israel Aerospace Industries Chairman Boaz Levy said after the win: “The fact that three of the five Israel Defense Prizes were awarded to Israel Aerospace Industries this year is further proof of the company’s decisive contribution to the security of the State of Israel and to preserving its qualitative and technological edge, and reflects the depth of our cooperation with the security establishment. Behind each of these achievements stand thousands of Israel Aerospace Industries employees, who work day and night, in routine and in emergencies, to develop the next generation of Israel’s defense systems and security capabilities. We are proud to play a central role in national projects of strategic importance and congratulate all our partners in the security establishment on the joint win.”
Israel Aerospace Industries has led Israel’s space activity for decades, מאז the launch of the first observation satellite, “Ofek 1,” in the 1980s. Over the years, it has developed and launched a series of observation and communications satellites for military, civilian and scientific missions. The “Ofek 19” satellite, included in the winning project, provides advanced radar observation capabilities that operate day and night and in all weather conditions, and constitutes a central pillar in the State of Israel’s intelligence and warning system.
