Sunni Sheikh Hassan Mouraib Denounces Khamenei as Murderer, Rejects Martyr Status on Live Broadcast
Sunni Sheikh Hassan Mouraib, a prominent Lebanese religious figure and deputy general supervisor at Dar al-Fatwa, erupted in anger during a live interview discussing the assassination of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Mouraib rejected attempts to portray Khamenei as a martyr for Muslims, stating that Khamenei died for Iran, not Palestine or the Muslim world. He explicitly blamed the United States and Israel for Khamenei's killing but insisted this did not sanctify him.
Mouraib accused Khamenei of being responsible for widespread bloodshed across the region, including Syria, Yemen, and Iraq, labeling him a criminal and murderer. He emphasized that millions of deaths in Syria are on Khamenei's conscience, criticizing Iran and Hezbollah's intervention there as harming Sunni Muslims under the guise of fighting infidels. Mouraib dismissed claims that Hezbollah combats extremist groups like ISIS, questioning the characterization of Syrians as infidels.
The sheikh further charged Khamenei with causing more civilian casualties than Israel did in Gaza, asserting that "our blood is not water." When challenged about Sunni inaction in Lebanon, Mouraib initially agreed but then defended Sunnis as capable fighters. He claimed Sunnis have reclaimed Damascus, crediting figures like President Ahmad al-Shara and Abu Muhammad al-Julani for defeating regime leaders and restoring Sunni control.
Regarding Lebanon's future, Mouraib briefly stated that the country will return to the embrace of the Lebanese state. His remarks highlight deep sectarian tensions and criticism of Iranian influence in the region, particularly from a leading Sunni religious authority in Lebanon.
