Israeli Election Committee Orders Removal of Netanyahu Video Citing Illegal Campaign Propaganda
Noam Solberg, chairman of Israel's Central Election Committee, issued a temporary order on Wednesday to remove a video posted on both the official Prime Minister's Office accounts and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's personal political account. The order followed a petition by the NGO "Choosing Israel," which claimed the video constituted illegal election propaganda using public resources.
The video featured Netanyahu during a multi-front situation assessment with senior IDF command, discussing efforts made to secure the release of hostages earlier than their actual release date. The Election Committee stated that the simultaneous posting of the video on both official and personal political channels raised concerns. Solberg noted that if the video is considered election propaganda, it should not appear on official accounts; if it is not propaganda, there is no justification for posting it on Netanyahu's personal political account.
Without ruling definitively on whether the video qualifies as election propaganda, the committee ordered its removal from all accounts pending further legal review of the petition.
