Mansour Abbas Condemns Shas for Supporting Controversial Anti-Religious Law

Mansour Abbas, chairman of the Ra'am party, sharply criticized Shas for backing a law banning loudspeaker use in houses of worship, including mosques. He described Shas's decision as "very disappointing and condemnable," emphasizing that he expected a religious party to uphold the spirit of the biblical verse: 'You shall not wrong or oppress a stranger, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.' Abbas's remarks came in direct response to Shas's announcement supporting the so-called "Muezzin Law," which prohibits the use of loudspeakers for calls to prayer and other religious broadcasts in places of worship.
