Israeli Knesset Cafeteria Celebrates US Independence Day Early with American Menu
On Wednesday, the Israeli Knesset cafeteria marked the United States Independence Day, July 4th, ahead of schedule by serving a special American-themed menu. Instead of the usual offerings, members of Knesset, ministers, staff, and visitors enjoyed classic American dishes such as hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken wings, and fish and chips. The early celebration was prompted by the Hebrew calendar, as the fast of the 17th of Tammuz falls on the following day, and the Knesset officials wanted to observe the American holiday close to its actual date before it became too late the following week. The event was documented with photos and video by Yehuda Shlezinger inside the Knesset.
