Iran's Religious Council Calls for Assassination of Netanyahu and Trump
Iran's Assembly of Experts, a body of 88 senior clerics responsible for selecting and overseeing the Supreme Leader, issued a formal statement on Wednesday calling for the assassination of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump. The statement, published in a 10-point document, labeled both leaders as "deserving of death" and declared their killing a religious obligation. This call for violence was framed as revenge for the death of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, whom the clerics vowed to avenge.
The document emphasized that anyone with access to Netanyahu or Trump has a duty to "send them to hell." Concurrently, the Iranian newspaper Hamshahri featured a front-page image of Trump in a rifle scope with the headline "Certain Revenge." The clerics also dismissed ongoing ceasefire negotiations in the current conflict as a mere "delay tactic" by the United States, intended to buy time for planning further attacks.
This declaration marks a significant escalation in rhetoric from Iran's religious leadership, directly targeting the heads of state of Israel and the United States with calls for assassination. The Assembly of Experts' statement was reported by the New York Post and reflects heightened tensions amid ongoing regional conflicts.
