Iran Warns of Immediate Response After Israeli Defense Minister Threatens Khamenei's Son

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi issued a stern warning to Israel following Defense Minister Israel Katz's statement that Mojtaba Khamenei, son of Iran's Supreme Leader, is targeted for assassination. Araghchi declared that any threat against the Iranian people or leadership will receive an immediate and powerful response. This escalation occurs amid ongoing tensions between Iran and Israel, coinciding with recent nuclear talks between the United States and Iran held in Switzerland under Omani mediation. Although both sides described the discussions as constructive, no significant progress was reported.

Araghchi also addressed U.S. President Donald Trump, stating that Trump has pledged to silence Israel's "pets" in Tel Aviv, warning that if they ignore their "master," Iran will teach them a lesson. This comes after Trump commented on the nuclear talks, saying they are progressing but hold no real significance until concluded. Trump also revealed new details about a recent incident in the Strait of Hormuz, where an Iranian drone downed a U.S. Apache helicopter.

The heightened tensions in the Strait of Hormuz follow U.S. strikes on Iranian weapons depots in retaliation for an attack on a commercial vessel. The U.S. Central Command targeted Iranian missile, drone storage, and radar sites, with Trump condemning the actions as a reckless ceasefire violation. Iran's Revolutionary Guards responded with attacks on American targets in the area. Reports also indicate Iran lost control over naval mines deployed in the strait, as strong currents displaced them after being hastily laid without precise coordinates.

In Israel, Defense Minister Katz warned that war with Iran could erupt imminently. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed pressure during the Gaza conflict to withdraw in exchange for hostage releases. Meanwhile, President Isaac Herzog, speaking in Romania, criticized Iran's nuclear ambitions and its influence over Lebanon, calling it a direct threat to Israel's security. Herzog thanked Romania for its principled support of Israel since October 7 and highlighted recent Israel-Lebanon understandings as a significant step toward peace.
