Beersheba Council Considers Defamation Lawsuits Against Residents Over Social Media Criticism
The Beersheba City Council is set to convene soon to discuss a proposal to approve defamation and libel lawsuits against residents who posted videos and social media content criticizing municipal inspectors. These residents shared the content after receiving fines from the city, including a notable case where a resident from Gush Amir was fined 63,000 shekels for riding an electric scooter in Tel Aviv. The proposal, put forward by council members, claims that the residents' posts harmed the reputation of the municipal inspectors. According to the inspectors, the negative content was a direct response to the fines issued by the city. Even if the council approves the proposal, it must undergo several additional approvals before any legal action against the residents can proceed in court.
