Thousands of Israeli Police Deployed to Secure Maccabiah Games Across the Country
The Israel Police have completed extensive preparations to secure the 2026 Maccabiah Games, which will take place nationwide over the next two weeks. The large-scale sporting event, featuring thousands of athletes from Israel and around the world, officially opens today with a festive ceremony at Teddy Stadium in Jerusalem.
Police forces, including thousands of officers and fighters, will be deployed across the country to maintain public order, direct traffic on main routes, and respond effectively to any incidents. The security plan was developed in close cooperation with the Maccabiah organizers and various security and emergency agencies.
Superintendent Eti Ganis, head of the Patrol Division in the Operations Department, emphasized the importance of collaboration among all parties to ensure the event's success. The police urge the public to stay informed in advance about expected changes in traffic arrangements, road closures, and detours related to the events. Updates will be available via the Traffic Department's Telegram channel, the Waze navigation app, and the national police information center at 110.
