Asian Markets Show Mixed Trends as US Stocks Close Strong Quarter
Asian stock markets displayed a mixed performance on the morning of the new quarter. Tokyo's market rose by 0.5%, Shanghai increased by 1.1%, while Seoul declined by 1.1%. Hong Kong's market was closed in observance of the anniversary marking the transfer of sovereignty from Britain to China.
On Wall Street, the previous session ended with gains, as the Nasdaq and S&P 500 recorded their best quarterly performances since 2020. The Nasdaq surged 1.5% in early trading, with notable gains in technology stocks: AMD jumped 7.7%, Intel rose 6%, Marvell increased 7.3%, and Apple climbed 2.7%. For the second quarter, the S&P 500 advanced 14%, and the Nasdaq gained 20%. The Dow Jones posted its strongest first half of the year since 2021.
However, Nike shares fell 3.2% in after-hours trading following the release of its earnings report.
