California Professor Sentenced to One Year for Killing Jewish Protester in Los Angeles
A California court sentenced 53-year-old professor Louie Abdel Fattah Alnaji to one year in prison and two years probation for the manslaughter of 69-year-old Jewish protester Paul Kessler. The incident occurred in November 2023 during a pro-Palestinian demonstration in Los Angeles, where a counter-protest by Jewish and Israeli demonstrators was also taking place. According to eyewitnesses, a physical altercation broke out between the groups, during which Alnaji struck Kessler with a megaphone. Kessler suffered a severe head injury, was hospitalized, and later pronounced dead. Jewish organizations sharply criticized the lenient sentence, stating it sends a message that attacking someone in broad daylight over political disagreements, especially related to Israel, can go unpunished.
