According to ESPN reporter Ramona Shelburne, James and his team will begin discussions with several NBA franchises starting Wednesday, though they are not rushing to decide his next destination. Betting odds currently favor the Golden State Warriors as the leading candidate to sign James, with his former teams Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat also in contention. The Athletic reports that James Harden, who declined his $42.3 million player option with the Cavaliers, plans to sign a new contract aimed at giving Cleveland more salary cap flexibility to facilitate bringing LeBron back. The Cavaliers have already started exploring trade offers for Max Strus and Dennis Schröder to clear additional cap space.

ESPN analyst Dave McMenamin emphasized Cleveland as the only place that fully embraces LeBron’s identity, calling it potentially the best scenario for him. LeBron has instructed his agent Rich Paul to engage with all interested teams and return with the best options. Brian Windhorst, familiar with James, noted that LeBron prioritizes happiness over money and may take time to decide.

Golden State stars Stephen Curry and Draymond Green are reportedly eager to recruit their longtime friend to the Warriors, believing they can fulfill his championship aspirations. LeBron previously praised playing alongside Curry on the U.S. national team as a perfect experience. However, The Athletic also reported that Washington is currently unwilling to trade Anthony Davis to Golden State or other teams, complicating the Warriors’ plans. Minnesota Timberwolves have also expressed interest, though it remains uncertain if LeBron would choose a smaller market.
