Maccabi Haifa Offers to Sign Brazilian Defender Leo Santos from Portuguese League
Maccabi Haifa has submitted an offer to acquire 27-year-old Brazilian defender Leo Santos, currently playing for Nacional in Portugal's top division, according to ESPN Brazil. Santos, who has represented Brazil at youth levels, is experiencing the best season of his career and is under contract with Nacional until summer 2027, meaning the club will require compensation to release him. Transfermarkt values him at approximately one million euros.
Santos began his career in Brazil with Corinthians, making 38 appearances, and also played for Fluminense and in Brazil's second division. In the summer of 2024, he moved to Nacional on a free transfer. After limited playing time in his first season, he became a key player last season, featuring in 31 league matches and contributing three goals and two assists.
Maccabi Haifa aims to strengthen its defense by signing Santos, who has shown significant development in Portugal. The club's proposal reflects its intent to invest in a player with international youth experience and proven performance in European competition.
