Yochai Damri Appointed Interim Head of Sha'ar Shomron Local Council
After four years as the appointed head of the Sha'ar Shomron Local Council, Avi Roa has stepped down from his position. Yochai Damri was appointed by the Ministry of the Interior to lead the council during the interim period until the planned merger with Elkana is completed, in accordance with state decisions. A handover meeting took place where Roa transferred management responsibilities to Damri.
Roa was appointed in 2022 when the Sha'ar Shomron council was established. During his tenure, he led the creation of administrative systems, developed resident services, established professional units, and recruited staff. He also advanced projects in education, security, infrastructure, development, sports, community, and quality of life. His term was marked by security challenges including the Iron Swords war, Operation With the Wolf, Operation Lion's Roar, and the overall security situation in Judea and Samaria. Despite these challenges, the council maintained functional continuity and continued providing services to the communities of Sha'arei Tikva and Etz Efraim while promoting development projects.
Before his appointment to Sha'ar Shomron, Roa held several public roles including advisor to the Defense Minister, head of the Mateh Binyamin Regional Council, and chairman of the Yesha Council. Damri, who assumed office today, previously served as head of the Har Hebron Regional Council and held various management roles in local government, including director of education in the Shomron Regional Council.
Upon leaving office, Roa expressed gratitude for the opportunity to help establish the new council and advance important projects, emphasizing the significance of the merger with Elkana for the region's future. Damri acknowledged the complex organizational situation he is inheriting and pledged to ensure professional, quality, and continuous service through cooperation with all stakeholders. The Sha'ar Shomron council thanked Roa for his leadership and wished Damri success in guiding the council forward.
