State Comptroller Reports 501% Surge in Disabled Parking Permits in Israel Over Two Decades
The issuance system for disabled parking permits in Israel has long suffered from systemic distortions, lack of oversight, and insufficient enforcement. These flaws have led to a significant increase in the number of disabled parking permits, creating a real parking shortage for those who genuinely need them. According to a State Comptroller report, from 2006 to 2025, the number of disabled parking permits in Israel surged by 501%, rising from approximately 74,000 permits in 2006 to about 445,000 permits in 2025. This sharp increase occurred while the country's population grew by only 43% during the same period. Furthermore, the number of vehicles displaying disabled parking permits has grown even more dramatically, reaching 669,000 today compared to around 155,000 in 2014, representing a 4.3-fold increase in roughly a decade.
