Ultra-Orthodox Man Vandalizes Eruv in Stamford Hill After Sabbath Begins
Last Friday in the ultra-Orthodox neighborhood of Stamford Hill, London, a man known for his extremist views was recorded cutting the wires of the community's eruv shortly after the Sabbath began. The incident occurred at 21:17, 11 minutes after the Sabbath started at 21:06, and just before sunset at 21:22. After vandalizing the eruv, the man quickly got into his nearby parked car and drove away, heading to his home about a 10-minute drive from the scene.
Residents of the community told "Bachadrei Charedim" that this individual has long been harassing the eruv, causing distress to hundreds of families who rely on it to carry items during the long summer Sabbath in London. The man reportedly invents various excuses to justify his actions, which repeatedly lead to Sabbath desecration for many unaware community members. The footage was first published by "Hapragod" and clearly shows the man violating the Sabbath by performing this act after its official start time.
The eruv is a symbolic boundary that allows observant Jews to carry objects on the Sabbath, and its disruption significantly impacts daily religious observance. The community continues to struggle with this ongoing harassment, which undermines their ability to observe the Sabbath properly.
