Monaco Launches Manhunt After Rare Explosion Injures Several
Monaco and French police are conducting a joint manhunt for a suspect who detonated an explosive device in the heart of Monaco, injuring multiple people. The blast occurred shortly before 9 p.m. on Monday in the center of the principality. Emergency services from neighboring France were called in to assist local authorities at the scene.
According to Monaco's State Minister Christophe Mirman, two of the injured are in critical condition. Surveillance footage captured a man placing a backpack at the entrance of a residential building shortly before the explosion. The public prosecutor described the device as a "package bomb."
Mirman emphasized the unprecedented nature of the incident, stating, "An event like this has never happened before in the principality." Eric Ciotti, mayor of nearby Nice, called the attack a tragedy for Monaco in a post on social media platform X. The investigation and search for the suspect are ongoing.
