Former basketball star and commentator Lior Eliyahu addressed the situation in a 103FM sports interview on Monday. Eliyahu emphasized that after the challenges Madar faced this year, he should set aside his emotional ties to Hapoel Tel Aviv and focus on his professional growth. "A player has a soul and wants to play. If offered $1.5 million to sit on the bench or $300,000 to play elsewhere, that is a dilemma," Eliyahu said.

He added that if there is little financial difference but a place where Madar is professionally valued, he might not stay. Currently in a position of strength, Madar should clarify with the coach that he is not interested in a secondary role. Eliyahu also discussed the financial revolution in Israeli basketball following Ofer Yanai's involvement with Hapoel Tel Aviv, noting that the club's entry into the financial competition has raised salaries even for Israeli players at Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Eliyahu stressed the importance of maintaining local identity in teams, highlighting that clubs lacking homegrown Israeli players face serious issues. He praised Hapoel Tel Aviv's need to preserve its Israeli character with leading Israeli players. Additionally, Eliyahu welcomed Bonzi Colson's return to Maccabi Tel Aviv, calling it an excellent signing due to Colson's strong connection with fans, contrasting it with Lonnie Walker's less established rapport with the team and supporters.
