Lee Avrahami, 26, winner of the previous season of the Israeli reality show "The Amazing Race," publicly condemned the growing trend of expensive engagement parties in Israel where guests are expected to cover the costs. In a TikTok video posted on Sunday while preparing for yet another engagement party, Avrahami expressed frustration over the financial burden placed on attendees. "I really don't understand why I have to go broke just because you're getting married," she said, noting she was preparing for her 200th engagement party in the past month alone. She emphasized that money does not grow on trees and she has no special means to afford such expenses.

Avrahami criticized the expectation that guests should pay for these celebrations, stating, "If you're throwing an engagement party, I come to celebrate with you out of my own time, but why should I have to pay for it?" She acknowledged the heavy financial strain these events impose. Furthermore, she condemned extravagant weddings that leave couples in debt, mentioning cases where couples spend excessively on singers and dresses costing up to 100,000 shekels, only to face bank overdrafts the next day. "Why all this show? It's just a 4-5 hour event, why spend your entire mortgage on it just to say you brought a singer?" she questioned.
