Drake Bets $1 Million on Canada Advancing in 2026 World Cup
Canadian rapper Drake has placed a $770,000 bet that Canada will defeat South Africa and advance to the Round of 16 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, potentially earning over $1 million. Canada, the tournament host, secured second place in Group B behind Switzerland, guaranteeing their spot in the knockout stage for the first time in history despite a loss in their final group match. With four points from three games, Canada edged Bosnia and Herzegovina on goal difference. Although finishing second prevented Canada from continuing to play on home soil, Drake remained unfazed.
Drake, 39, frequently wagers large sums on sports events through Stake, a betting platform with which he is affiliated. He shared a screenshot of his latest bet, motivated by teasing messages from South African DJ and producer Black Coffee. Previously, Drake lost a $1 million bet on the 2022 World Cup final and a $300,000 bet on Canada beating Argentina in the 2024 Copa America semifinal. In the 2022 final, he correctly predicted Argentina's win but lost his wager because he bet on a victory within regular time, which did not occur.
Despite past losses, Drake continues to back Canada passionately and engage in high-stakes sports betting during major tournaments. The 2026 World Cup marks a historic moment for Canadian soccer, with Drake's bet highlighting the growing excitement around the national team's progress.
