Gila Gamliel Demands Education Ministry Portfolio in Next Israeli Government
As the Likud party braces for a crucial meeting of its Constitution Committee expected to decide the fate of internal primaries and the allocation of reserved slots for the party leader, Minister Gila Gamliel spoke optimistically about the party's internal power struggles. In an interview on Radio 103FM on Sunday, Gamliel expressed confidence that a last-minute compromise would be reached, balancing free choice for party members with a number of reserved slots for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. She dismissed fears of a party split, stating, "I believe they will reach an understanding and some compromise that will allow both freedom of choice for the members and reserved slots for the prime minister."
Gamliel also voiced strong confidence in her political standing among tens of thousands of Likud members ahead of the primaries, saying, "I believe I will return to the top ten in Likud." Additionally, she confidently predicted the fall of the Iranian regime.
In a notable political declaration, Gamliel publicly revealed her aspiration for the upcoming government formation: she wants to serve as Israel's Minister of Education. She criticized the current Education Ministry as "very cumbersome and archaic," highlighting systemic flaws and inefficiencies. According to her, the ministry's large budget primarily sustains bureaucracy rather than directly benefiting students. She emphasized that the current structure prevents Israeli students from fully realizing their potential and insisted that this must change.
