Explosions Reported Near Iranian Port Sirik Amid Rising Tensions in Strait of Hormuz

Explosions were reported on Sunday near the Iranian port city of Sirik, located close to the strategic Strait of Hormuz. This incident comes amid escalating maritime tensions between Tehran and Washington, involving reciprocal attacks on commercial vessels and military targets in the Gulf region. The recent explosions follow a series of confrontations, including a U.S. Central Command strike on Iranian sites in Sirik, targeting missile storage, drones, and coastal radar installations. This American response was triggered by an Iranian drone attack on the cargo ship "Ever Lovely" near Oman's coast last week.

Yesterday, the British Maritime Trade Organization reported another attack on a commercial ship in the Strait of Hormuz, which sustained damage but had no crew injuries. In reaction, the U.S. Navy elevated the threat level in the strait and expanded safe navigation routes near Oman to protect maritime traffic. The U.S. Central Command issued a statement affirming Washington's resolve to prevent Iran from continuing assaults on commercial shipping.

Simultaneously, Bahrain condemned an Iranian drone attack within its territory, labeling it a violation of sovereignty and calling on the UN Security Council to hold Tehran accountable. Bahrain also emphasized its right to respond to such provocations. Iran, however, rejected these criticisms. Ibrahim Azizi, chairman of Iran's parliamentary National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, asserted that control over the strait lies with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy. He stated Iran does not require external approval to operate in the area and insisted that any nation wishing to transit the vital shipping route must comply with Iranian regulations. Azizi warned that any violations would be met with firm responses.
