Abdoulaye Seck dedicates Senegal goal to his late son
Senegal and Iraq entered the final round in Group 9 knowing only a win would keep their hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive. Senegal struck first in the fourth minute, when Habib Diarra scored after a set piece began with a header from Abdoulaye Seck, the former Maccabi Haifa defender.
Seck timed a sharp header from a Senegal corner, but the ball deflected off Diarra on its way into the net, so the goal was credited to Diarra and Seck was given the assist. During the celebrations, Seck pointed to the sky and revealed an undershirt tribute to his baby son.
The tribute was for his son, who died about two years ago in tragic circumstances. Seck dedicated the opening goal to him as Senegal moved toward a crucial win.
