Large Bnei Brak rally for yeshiva students postponed to Monday
A major public rally in Bnei Brak, originally planned for Saturday night, has been postponed to Monday evening after organizers received requests from many people outside the city who wanted to attend. The event follows a meeting of Sephardi community rabbis held two weeks ago in Bnei Brak over the draft order for yeshiva students and their imprisonment in military prison.
The demonstration, titled "Mikra Kavod HaTorah" and described as a show of honor for Torah scholars who are being arrested and sent to military prison, will be held under the leadership of Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, the former Sephardi chief rabbi and president of the Council of Torah Sages. Organizers expect all community rabbis, yeshiva heads, heads of kollels, and other leading rabbis and sages to take part.
The rally will take place on Eshl Avraham and Rabinov streets in the Ramat Elchanan and Ramat Aharon neighborhoods of the city. It is scheduled to begin on Monday, 14 Tammuz, at 9:30 p.m.
Organizers say they are preparing for attendance of tens of thousands and expect the event to proceed in an orderly manner, while expressing broad support for Torah learners who have been imprisoned.
