Ultra-Orthodox Kindergarten Teachers Speak Out Amid Funding Crisis

Veteran kindergarten teachers from the Haredi education system say they are facing fear, humiliation and financial uncertainty after a wave of dismissal notices and shutdown threats swept through the sector. She said she fears not only losing her job but what comes after, asking who would hire her after a lifetime in early childhood education. She and other teachers described sleepless nights, tears over pay slips and letters, and the emotional toll on their children at home.

Another veteran teacher, Rivka, said parents used to entrust her with their most precious thing, their young children, and now she feels the system is judging her only as a budget line. She recalled a child asking whether she would still be there next year, a question she could only answer vaguely. The teachers said the same system that once pushed them to study, train and gain experience is now turning that experience into a reason they may no longer be affordable.

The teachers said they are grateful that network directors are fighting for them, and they see that struggle as their last chance. "We are not asking for pity, we are asking for justice," Sarah said. "Do not throw us away after we gave our souls."
