Switzerland’s foreign ministry said it is deploying a rescue mission to Venezuela after the country was hit by a double earthquake. The team includes 80 rescue workers, eight search dogs and 18 tons of equipment.
According to the ministry, the mission will focus on locating, extracting and saving victims trapped under rubble after the quake. The statement did not give further details on the timing of the deployment or the extent of the damage.
Venezuela was struck by the pair of earthquakes before the Swiss announcement, prompting the international aid response. The Swiss government framed the operation as a search and rescue effort for people buried in collapsed structures.
