In the new episode of “Taste of Shabbat,” chef Avi Levy will host former politician and educator Dr. Aliza Bloch. Airing Friday, the segment features the pair preparing a Moroccan-inspired one-pot dish of chicken thigh pieces and caramelized onions, described as a comforting meal with deep flavors.
The recipe uses one package of wide or medium interia pasta, 2 large onions, 500 grams of chicken thigh meat cut into cubes, 2 teaspoons coarse salt, 2 teaspoons crushed pepper, 1 tablespoon brown sugar, 1/2 tablespoon turmeric, 1/4 cup olive oil, and boiling water to cover the pasta. The dish is intended to fill the house with a rich aroma and be easy to make.
The cooking method begins by heating olive oil in a wide, not-too-deep pot and frying the onions until nicely golden. The chicken and spices are then added and stirred until the chicken is almost cooked, but not fully done.
Next, one package of interia is mixed in for a few minutes, then boiling water, about 2 cups, is added to cover the pasta. The pot is covered and cooked for 20 minutes on the lowest heat, then left closed for another 5 minutes after the flame is turned off.
