Nuno Mendes injured as Portugal beat Nigeria 2-1

Portugal, in the eyes of many, is one of the teams that could spring a surprise at the World Cup. The Selecao faced Nigeria on Wednesday night into Thursday in their final warm-up match before the tournament and won 2-1, in a game in which Nuno Mendes came off the bench and was substituted in the 80th minute, prompting major concern in the squad.
Pedro Neto gave the Selecao the lead off an assist from Diogo Dalot. Akor Adams equalized in the 37th minute, as nearly all the outfield players were substituted during the second half, most of them at halftime. Joao Cancelo assisted Francisco Conceicao in the 75th minute, but the significant moment came five minutes later.
Nuno Mendes, who replaced Dalot at halftime, limped to the bench.
Portugal's first match will take place on 17.6 against the Democratic Republic of Congo, with the team in a group that includes Uzbekistan and Colombia.
Mendes was one of Paris Saint-Germain's best players this season, having played 120 minutes in the Champions League final.
