Six World Cup 2026 matches were played overnight Wednesday to Thursday, with Brazil drawing most of the attention, but several other teams also shaped the knockout picture. The roundup covered wins for Brazil, Switzerland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Morocco, Mexico and South Africa, along with the implications for the next round.
Brazil beat Scotland 3-0. Vinicius scored twice, in the 8th minute and stoppage time of the first half, after two major Scottish errors, and Matheus Cunha added the third after sustained pressure. Neymar entered in the 76th minute and drew a warm response from the fans.
Switzerland defeated Canada 2-1 to secure first place in the group. Johan Manzambi, one of the tournament revelations, assisted Ruben Vargas in the 46th minute and scored himself in the 57th. Promise David, a teammate of Anan Khalaili at Union Saint-Gilloise, pulled one back in the 76th. Canada will play the round of 32 away from home, becoming the first host nation ever to do so. Bosnia and Herzegovina also moved close to the next stage with a 3-1 win over Qatar, whose tournament ended disappointingly. Kerim Alibegovic and an own goal by Mahmoud Abunad put Bosnia ahead early, Hesham Al Haidos briefly reduced the deficit, and Armin Hmamic sealed the result.
Morocco beat Haiti 4-2, with Wilson Isidor scoring one of the goals of the tournament for Haiti before substitute Soufiane Rahimi scored and assisted to break the deadlock. Morocco advanced from second place and is expected to face the strong Netherlands in the next round. Mexico had already clinched its group before beating Czechia 3-0, with goals from Mateo Chavez and Julian Quinones, while veteran goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa made his fifth World Cup appearance when he came on in the 78th minute. South Africa produced the night’s surprise, defeating South Korea 1-0 after Taphang Moreni came off the bench in the 62nd minute and assisted Tapelo Mskho one minute later, despite South Africa having only 32 percent possession.
