Former Knesset member Eitan Cabel said in an interview Thursday on Radio 103FM that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has understood he cannot reach 61 seats. According to Cabel, Netanyahu is now working to make sure the so-called change bloc also falls short of that threshold.
Cabel made the remarks against the backdrop of Netanyahu’s efforts to quickly pass legislation favorable to ultra-Orthodox parties. He argued that Netanyahu is prepared to do “everything,” even at the expense of his own base inside Likud, if that helps shape the political outcome.
In Cabel’s view, the current push in the Knesset is not only about advancing specific bills, but about preventing either side from assembling a governing majority of 61 MKs. That number is critical in Israel’s 120-seat parliament for forming a coalition.
