Edin Dzeko had a frustrating night for Bosnia and Herzegovina against Qatar on Wednesday, despite the match marking his 150th appearance for the national team. The 40-year-old captain, Bosnia’s all-time leading scorer with 73 goals, failed to score and was substituted in the 64th minute.
Dzeko did not take the change well. As he left the pitch, he refused to shake hands with coach Sergej Barbarez, then threw a water bottle to the floor after sitting on the bench. The incident stood out because it came in what was meant to be a celebratory milestone for one of Bosnia’s biggest football symbols.
The veteran striker could finish this World Cup without scoring a goal. His last World Cup appearance was in 2014, when he scored once in Bosnia’s 3-1 win over Iran.
