Nikola Jokic shows off slimmer look as Serbia prepares for World Cup qualifying window
Nikola Jokic will suit up for Serbia in the upcoming FIBA World Cup qualifying window, and one shooting-practice video of the Denver Nuggets star quickly went viral. In the clip, Serbian media said Jokic appeared in the slimmest shape he has had in years, drawing widespread attention at camp.
Local coverage said Jokic was among the first to arrive for practice, smiling and in good spirits, and that he looked extremely ready physically. One report said he may be in the best condition of his life. Media in Serbia also noted that this summer seems very different from his usual offseason, with no images of rafting, parties, nightlife or beer in hand, and described him as having effectively been “reborn” through a strict training regimen.
Jokic, who has been named captain of the team, also addressed Serbia’s disappointment at EuroBasket 2025, where the team was eliminated by Finland in the round of 16. He said, “I feel guilty for the failure we had. I cannot go back home as usual and act like nothing happened. I cannot say it is a shame, but my conscience hurts. I have a huge desire to bring Serbian basketball back to where it should be.”
Serbia is in Group C in qualifying and has recorded two wins and two losses so far. In the next window, the team will face Switzerland and Bosnia.
