Google is expanding the connection between Google Wallet and Chrome’s autofill system to make online form filling faster and easier. With the update, Chrome can pull information stored in Google Wallet and automatically fill in details from identity documents, passports and driver’s licenses.
The new support also covers flight details and vehicle data, including license plates and chassis numbers. Google said the feature is meant to help in situations where users must enter a lot of information online, such as airline check-in, account sign-ups, parking payments and forms that require identifying details.
According to Google, the information will be filled in only after explicit user approval, and sensitive data will be stored in encrypted form. If the details are not yet saved in Google Wallet, Chrome can offer to save them after the user enters them for the first time on a website.
The change extends to mobile features that were previously available mainly on computers, and it will arrive on Android and iOS devices as well as the desktop version of Chrome. Users will be able to manage the information through Google Wallet settings or Chrome’s updated settings menu, including a choice over whether to use personal documents in Google services. The integration is rolling out now with Chrome 150, and availability is expected to expand gradually over the coming days.
