Twenty-one years after Sha-Nur’s original kindergarten was closed and the community evacuated as part of the disengagement from northern Samaria, the first kindergarten building was placed in the revived settlement on Tuesday. The new facility is expected to open in the coming school year for children of families already living there, along with additional families expected to join later.
More educational buildings are also planned as part of broader development plans for the area. At the placement ceremony, residents, local children and Samaria Regional Council head Yossi Dagan took part, and the participants helped the workers position the structure.
Dagan, who himself was evacuated from Sha-Nur in 2005 and later returned after renewed settlement activity, blessed the moment with “Shehecheyanu” and told the children, “You are making history now. We are bringing Sha-Nur its first kindergarten after 21 years. This is the first kindergarten this year out of many that will arrive in the new communities being established in northern Samaria.” He added, “After 21 years of struggles, we are in the midst of renewing settlement in the place. Justice is finally arriving, even if it takes years.”
A resident, Adi Gelbard, said the family is excited ahead of the kindergarten’s opening and hopes to send the children on September 1. She said, “To see children playing and happy here is a great privilege for us, to be partners in rebuilding the place. This is the beginning.”
