A patient named Aliza was rushed to Barzilai Medical Center after losing consciousness, and doctors quickly found a major pulmonary embolism caused by a life-threatening blood clot. Hospital staff said that every minute mattered, because the condition can rapidly worsen without urgent treatment.
According to the hospital spokeswoman, Aliza first arrived at Internal Medicine Department D, where the embolism was diagnosed. She was then transferred to cardiology, where doctors decided to use an innovative clot-removal procedure to restore normal blood flow to the lungs and stabilize her condition.
The intensive care team stayed on standby throughout the process and prepared to deploy an ECMO heart-lung machine if needed. The hospital said the coordinated response between internal medicine, cardiology, and intensive care was essential to the outcome.
Doctors said the combination of professionalism, rapid availability, quick decision-making, and teamwork led to Aliza’s life being saved.
