Reserve Maj. Gen. Yitzhak Brick gave a bleak interview to Channel 7 at the Lev Conference on Science, Technology and Security, arguing that Israel is in its worst security position ever and warning that the army has been reduced so much it can no longer achieve a clear decision. He said the situation along the Lebanon border matches the warnings he issued earlier and described the military as suffering from ongoing erosion.
Brick said Israel has effectively been sidelined because Iran has entered the picture, and he claimed that under an agreement with the United States, a coordination committee would decide on the withdrawal of IDF forces from Lebanon back to Israel's northern border. He added that Israel missed major opportunities to act correctly earlier, and now needs a new strategic posture, with clear defensive lines to best protect northern communities while waging a determined diplomatic fight with Washington.
He said Israel should hold the "yellow line" that protects settlements in the north within a 10-kilometer range, and at the same time do everything possible to resolve the issue with the United States. Brick devoted much of his criticism to US policy and President Donald Trump, saying Washington's willingness to reach understandings with Iran stems from heavy domestic and international pressure, including after the Strait of Hormuz was blocked.
Brick warned that Iran could become a dominant power while Israel loses critical American backing. He said Trump believed Israel was going to defeat Iran, but that did not happen, and accused him of trying to exit the war at any cost and of turning Iran into a regional economic, nuclear, and missile power. He said this, together with strategic ties involving Egypt, Turkey, Sudan, and Pakistan, could create a threat Israel has never faced, while the United States moves toward an alliance with Iran at Israel's expense.
Turning to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Brick said, "Get off the roof," and urged him to focus on the future, not just the present. He said Israel must fight to keep its position in Lebanon and Gaza, go to the United States, speak with Trump, and try to convince him that he is making major mistakes. Brick also lamented the lack of a worthy alternative leadership in Israeli politics, saying the country's internal fracture is damaging national resilience and making it harder to rebuild the army and state.
