A foreign intelligence report, published by Kan News, says Qatar is helping Iran bypass international sanctions and has become a major channel for Tehran’s economic, commercial and military buildup. The report says Doha has played this role especially since the 2018 collapse of the nuclear deal, and even after the October 7 massacre, while expanding maritime trade routes and driving bilateral trade up by tens of percent.
The document also says Qatar is central to the release of frozen Iranian funds. It identifies the first money Iran is supposed to receive under negotiations with the United States as $6 billion held in Qatar. According to the report, bank governors from both countries already agreed in October 2024 to free the funds, but Washington blocked the move at the time. The report says the money is intended for terrorism financing, not economic recovery.
Beyond finance, the intelligence assessment says Qatar is aiding Iran’s military capabilities. It cites official data from Qatar’s National Planning Council showing steady shipments of dual-use materials to Iran, including oils that can be used for rocket fuel, explosives and vessels, as well as unusually large quantities of hydrogen that can also serve as fuel for rockets and drones.
The report further says Iran received aluminum rods and profiles used to build drone frames, along with internal combustion engines that could be used directly in drone production. Its conclusion is that Qatar is directly harming the security interests of the United States, Israel and Arab states, and that concrete steps should be taken against its activity.
