The global frenzy around Lionel Messi and Argentina at the current World Cup is driving ticket prices sharply higher, according to SeatPick, a live-events price comparison platform. After Messi scored five goals in two matches and broke the all-time World Cup scoring record, demand for Argentina matches has surged as fans rush to secure seats while the tournament progresses.
SeatPick cofounder and CEO Gilad Zilberman said supply is falling because of Argentina’s strong performances and Messi’s continued worldwide appeal. He said Argentina match tickets have risen about 46% in the last week and more than 108% over the last two weeks, while the number of available tickets on the market has dropped significantly. The cheapest ticket for Argentina’s next match against Jordan is now $1,500, after a 15.1% increase in the past three days.
Argentina has already clinched advancement to the next stage of the 2026 World Cup after two straight group-stage wins, but its match against Jordan is still seen as a major draw for fans who want one more chance to watch the world champions and their iconic captain before the knockout rounds begin. Zilberman said the rise reflects fans’ belief they may be seeing Messi and Argentina on a path toward another final.
That expectation is also pushing up final-ticket prices. Zilberman said the cheapest entry to the World Cup final currently stands at about $8,700, up 17.4% in just the last three days. He added that as top teams continue advancing, more fans are trying to lock in their seats as early as possible. The article also notes that, as in past World Cups, Messi may not play if Argentina’s qualification is already secure and the coach chooses to rest him for the knockout stage.
