Emmanuel Sharp, after four successful seasons at Houston, is preparing for the biggest moment of his career so far. The son of Derrick Sharp has entered the NBA draft and is expected to be chosen in the second round, which will take place from Wednesday to Thursday in Brooklyn. The first round will be held Tuesday to Wednesday, also at the Nets’ arena.
Ahead of the draft, Chris Cenac Jr., who played with Sharp at Houston, told Sport 5 that Sharp deserves the rising attention he has been getting. “Emmanuel told us about his father, who played overseas and was a great player,” Cenac said. “He did not talk about it much, because as the son of someone, you prefer to pave your own path, and that is what he is doing. I am very happy for him and for what he is doing. His stock is rising, no doubt, as it should, he is one of the best defenders in the draft. He is a leader and a great scorer, any team that takes him will get a great player, no doubt.”
Kingston Flemings, another teammate at Houston and a projected lottery pick, also praised Sharp’s draft prospects. “I knew his stock would rise toward the draft, he is a competitive guy,” Flemings said. “You know what you get with Emmanuel. You get a scorer, someone tough and an excellent defender. He does great work on defense here, whoever gets Emmanuel will be lucky. He did not tell me much about Israel, I know his father played there, I probably need to ask him more.”
