The UFC heads to Baku, Azerbaijan, this weekend, with the event airing on 5LIVE and fitting Israeli viewing hours. The main card is expected to deliver another busy night after last weekend’s event produced five finishes in five main-card fights.
Before the main event between Rafael Fiziev and Manuel Torres, the co-main event pits Brazilian UFC fighter Michele Pereira against Dagestani contender Shara Magomedov in what is already a tense matchup. Pereira trains with Shimon Smotritsky and has shown support for Israel since October 7, including waving an Israeli flag after a previous fight.
Ahead of the card, Magomedov told Red Corner MMA that he considers Pereira “hypocritical.” He said Pereira waved Israel’s flag after a fight “one week after October 7,” accused him of backing “a state that carried out genocide in Gaza,” and argued that Pereira later traveled to Brazil to help rescue dogs trapped in floods only to get Instagram likes. Magomedov also mocked Pereira for not showing similar concern during floods in Dagestan.
The article says Pereira has not yet responded to the remarks, but expects he eventually will. It adds that the real answer, in the writer’s view, should come inside the cage in Baku this weekend.
