Organizers of a large new ultra-Orthodox protest against the drafting of yeshiva students announced on Tuesday that car convoys will leave at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday from dozens of locations across Israel. They described the action as a “protest march against the persecution of Torah students.”
The organizing committee said coordination meetings have been held in recent days ahead of the event, which is expected to include protest convoys and road blockages on major routes. The stated aim is to oppose the enlistment policy for yeshiva students and to increase public pressure on decision-makers.
The public was called on to join the convoys and demonstrations. Police and traffic authorities are preparing for possible congestion and disruptions on several key roads, similar to earlier ultra-Orthodox protests that caused blockages and traffic delays across the country.
At this stage, the full driving routes have not yet been published. The list of departure points includes 19 cities and towns, among them Jerusalem, Bnei Brak, Beit Shemesh, Ashdod, Haifa, Tiberias, Netanya, and Rehovot.
