Maya Almalich, one of the standout young players in Israeli women's basketball and a guard for Israel's under-20 national team, has signed with Elitzur Holon, Sport5 reported. The 18-year-old, who stands 1.70 meters tall, developed in the youth department of Ramat Hasharon and is regarded as one of the country's most promising prospects.
Last season, Almalich helped Ramat Hasharon win the girls' league championship and was named to the season's best five. She also played a role in the senior team’s Israeli Basketball Association Cup triumph in the National League. At the end of the season, she was selected as the league's Defensive Player of the Year in Girls A and posted averages of 20 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.7 steals and 2.7 assists per game, while also earning MVP honors in the championship series.
Almalich has played through all of Israel's youth national teams, from cadets to the under-20 squad. With the girls' team, she was part of a historic run to Israel's first-ever appearance at a World Championship after reaching the 2024 European Championship semifinals. She is currently in the under-20 roster, which will open the European Championship in Lithuania next week.
Holon, last season's runner-up, is aiming to go one step further in 2026-27 and win the title. Almalich joins captain Eden Rotberg, Tal Lev and Stasha Carey, who had already signed earlier this summer for coach Roy Lazar's team.
