Israel's Supreme Court rejected the Israel Bar Association's request for an interim order in its challenge to limits on legal fees charged by lawyers representing wounded soldiers and other war victims in their recognition process with the Defense Ministry.
The ruling means lawyers will now have to return any money collected above the amount permitted by law, rather than waiting for the case to be decided on the merits. In such cases, denial of an interim order is often seen as indicating that the petition itself has a low chance of success.
The dispute concerns the legal fees paid to attorneys who accompany injured service members through the recognition procedure before the Defense Ministry. The Bar Association is seeking to overturn the statutory cap, but for now the court has refused to freeze enforcement while the case continues.
