Rabbi Guy Alaluf issued a public apology on Monday for comments he made during a debate published last week, saying he spoke to Rabbi Hananel Eytrog in a manner that was “very, very disrespectful and ugly.” Alaluf said he was sorry, withdrew the remarks, and asked Eytrog and the public for forgiveness.
The debate took place in a podcast about the meaning of Tamir Dortal, with Alaluf appearing alongside Rabbi Sefi Barhi of Yeshivat Shevi Hevron. Alaluf said the subject was especially sensitive for him, and that he came into the discussion with a more combative approach than usual.
He said that led him to speak inappropriately toward Rabbi Hananel Eytrog, the head of Yeshivat Shevi Hevron. “It came out badly, ugly things came out, things I do not stand behind, I take them back,” he said.
Alaluf added that he had already spoken privately with Eytrog and apologized to him directly. He also addressed Eytrog’s students and anyone hurt by the remarks, asking that the apology video be shared so it reaches them.
