Prosecutors are waiting for a security opinion from the Mossad that could determine whether to indict Prime Minister’s Office staffers Yonatan Urich, Eli Feldstein and Shlomo “Srulik” Einhorn on security offenses in the Qatargate case. Until now, the security review in the case had been discussed in relation to a separate opinion from the Shin Bet.
The key question now is whether the Mossad chief, Roman Gofman, can sign off on the assessment. Gofman previously served as Benjamin Netanyahu’s military secretary, and officials say that connection could create a conflict of interest because of his closeness to the suspects.
The Legal Adviser to the Government and the Prime Minister’s Office are currently examining whether Gofman is disqualified from being the signatory on the opinion. The Mossad said only that the matter concerns an open investigation and it cannot comment, adding that the issue is being reviewed by the organization’s legal adviser.
