During a session on Monday in the plenary of the Central Elections Committee, Likud representative Knesset member Amit Halevi called for installing a fixed camera in every polling station across Israel, in addition to the cameras used by election integrity supervisors. Halevi said, “We want to place a fixed camera in every polling station, in addition to the camera of the election integrity supervisor.”
Acting director general of the Central Elections Committee for the Knesset, Dean Levana, strongly opposed the proposal. The report was published by i24.
The debate comes against the backdrop of a warning issued in December by State Comptroller Matanyahu Englman, who said there was a “real danger to the integrity of elections in Israel in 2026.” Speaking at the Cyber Week conference at Tel Aviv University, Englman said an audit in his office had found “significant deficiencies” in how the government and the Central Elections Committee were preparing to deal with foreign influence on the election process.
Englman warned that foreign interference could affect the democratic process and said, “We must recognize that foreign influences may emerge and affect our democratic process.” He added, “The State of Israel has entered an election year. During such a year, the threat intensifies and may endanger the democratic process.”
